Florence Allan, William A. Dart Scholar
University of Bristol
2016 William A. Dart Scholar
Florence is studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) at the University of Bristol after graduating from Cayman Prep and High School as a top student in her class. As part of her A Level studies, she completed an Extended Project Qualification on political bias in US coverage of the Iran Nuclear Deal. This project helped to develop her interests in the complex relationships between political systems and economic conditions – and she hopes to delve further in to this in her university studies. The openness of Florence’s degree allows her to explore many career options; one option she is interested in is exploring sustainable development projects in developing countries and emerging markets.
Continuing her outstanding academic achievements, Florence received three ‘Firsts’ and four ‘High 2:1’ in her first year at university; achieved the Dean’s Commendation for Exceptional Performance this year, and is part of the select group of highest performing students at the University of Exeter.
Outside her studies, Florence is a dedicated and leading member of the Cayman Islands National Sailing Team where she serves as Team Captain. In 2014 she represented the Cayman Islands at the Youth Olympics Games; in 2015 she was part of the Cayman team at the Central American & Caribbean Games; and in the summer of 2016, she competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
This summer Florence worked with Dart’s HR department – and outside of office hours she coached at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club.
Florence, we wish you the best for the coming year at Bristol.
