Stephanie Gunby, William A. Dart Scholar

Guelph University
2016 William A. Dart Scholar

Stephanie is currently studying Marine and Freshwater Biology at Guelph University in Ontario, Canada.  Over the past years Stephanie’s interests, spanning geography, environmental science and marine science, have seen her involved in a wide array of projects:

2015: she assisted Dr. Guy Harvey and researchers from the Georgie Aquarium tag stingrays for her AS Marine Science class.

2015: Stephanie travelled to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands on a photography and wildlife expedition with the National Geographic Student Expeditions. She learned about how climate change was affecting some of the islands’ indigenous species.

2016: Stephanie joined the National Geographic team again, this time studying the marine and tropical ecology in Bali, Indonesia. Stephanie spent her time in Bali assisting the local research team to assess the health of nearby coral reefs.

2017: this summer, she worked with the Department of Environment and the Cayman Turtle Centre completing internships that give her hands-on experience and compliment her studies in Marine Biology.

When Stephanie isn’t pursuing her academic passions, she is talented both athletically and musically, and was a member of her high school’s choir, concert band and steel pan band. Stephanie also took part in girls’ football and was a competitor in the 2015 Professional Squash Association tournament.

Stephanie, we wish you the best for your second year at Guelph!
