Dart welcomes back Chelsea Nelson for her fourth summer with the company. Chelsea returned to the team in March 2015 to complete the credit requirements of a university internship which counts as final credit to her degree. Chelsea is one of more than 30 work experience students Dart welcomes and invites back every year as a part of the Minds Inspired Work Experience programme.
Chelsea has worked as a summer work experience student with the Sports & Recreation Team within the Property Management department of Dart Realty (Cayman) Limited since 2012 and each year she gained valuable hands-on, practical experience which has benefited her in studies as well as in her future career.
“My experience while working at Dart has been extremely valuable. Each year I have been tasked with projects that are challenging and have encouraged me to use the knowledge I gained at university. I have really enjoyed organising and working the summer sport camps,” said Ms. Nelson, who added that her time at Dart gave her knowledge and understanding of what is necessary to make a major event successful and helped her decide that the sporting events field is where she sees her future career.
Jeffery Wight, Manager of Sports & Recreation, Venues, Parks, who has worked alongside Chelsea for the past three summers, says Chelsea has been an excellent resource for Sports & Recreation and its summer programming.
“From her first year with us Chelsea displayed the ability to work through her tasks and projects independently, producing high-quality work along the way. It is crucial to the success of our seasonal programming to find summer students who are capable of stepping right into important roles organising our camps. Chelsea has played a major part in the success we have enjoyed with our multisport and basketball camps, programmes she has been involved in for many years,” said Mr. Wight. He went on to say that his department has been fortunate enough to find quality students who have shown dedication and interest in a career in sports through Dart’s summer placement programme.
Chelsea is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports, Entertainment, and Event Management from Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina and will graduate on 23 May 2015.
The Minds Inspired Work Experience programme is a component of the Minds Inspired education initiative which offers scholarships to students entering grade 9 (year 10) and university. The Minds Inspired Work Experience programme introduces students to a broader picture of work life, from training sessions focusing on career success to opportunities which demonstrate good corporate citizenship through volunteerism.
Each year, summer students build relationships that will position them to be considered for full-time employment across the Dart group of companies. The Minds Inspired Work Experience programme includes students who are Minds Inspired Scholars from the high school and university scholarship programme, Dart summer students who have been invited back to the programme and college or university students who are seeking an opportunity to gain valuable work experience.
